Tshivenda home-language examiner, moderator, and esteemed principal Mr Pfuluwani Daniel Nemakhavhani (65) has officially retired from the teaching profession after an illustrious career spanning 38 years.
Nemakhavhani began his teaching journey in 1986 and worked at various schools, including Thononda Primary School and Mudungu Primary School, from where he retired as principal on Friday, 31 May.
Nemakhavhani dedicated his career to ensuring that learners speak and write the Tshivenda language correctly. His expertise in Tshivenda as home language has made him a respected figure in the educational community, serving as a teacher, examiner, and moderator.
Reflecting on his career, Mr Nemakhavhani expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to educate and inspire generations of students. “Teaching has been more than a job to me. It has been a calling. I have had the privilege of shaping young minds and watching them grow into responsible and successful adults,” he said.
Nemakhavhani holds several academic qualifications, including a senior primary diploma from Tshisimani College of Education, a BA degree from UNISA, a BA honours from the University of Stellenbosch, and a master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Stellenbosch. Throughout his career, Nemakhavhani was known for his dedication, passion, and commitment to maintaining high educational standards. He has been a beacon of excellence in Tshivenda home-language education.
During his farewell party on Thursday, 30 May, the school’s SGB members, teachers, and parents all thanked Nemakhavhani for his service and dedication. Nemakhavhani said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family and pursuing personal interests such as farming chillies.
